The mathematics programme is the Bergen Research Foundation’s first national programme. This programme is also a collaboration with Tromsø Research Foundation. A call for applications was announced with an application deadline of 30 April 2017.

The programme is open to the departments of mathematics at the University of Bergen (UiB), the University of Oslo (UiO), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Tromsø (UiT). The programme aims to contribute to strengthening and developing research in pure mathematics at UiB, UiO, NTNU and UiT through strategic recruitment and a cooperative support project.

Each institution was invited to nominate up to two candidates, of which at least one must be a woman. The University of Bergen shall lead the national cooperative project (cooperative support). Both the recruitment component and the cooperative support element are measures that have been motivated by the Research Council of Norway’s evaluation of mathematics.

In accordance with the Foundation’s established quality requirements, the nominated candidates and the joint cooperative project will now be assessed by an international committee of experts in the field.
